Dr Ivana Damjanovic is the Coordinator and Chief Investigator of the EU Centre of Excellence in Critical Minerals at the University of Canberra. She is also a Senior Lecturer at the Canberra Law School and a Visiting Research Fellow of the ANU Centre for European Studies.

Dr Damjanovic researches and teaches in the field of international law. She is a specialist in international investment governance and EU external investment, trade and climate policies. Through grants of the EU Erasmus+ Jean Monnet programme, she has been actively involved in numerous research collaborations in Australia and internationally, including as a project lead and key investigator. She has established and coordinated the first interdisciplinary course on EU law at the University of Canberra. Her monograph “The European Union and International Investment Law Reform: Between Aspirations and Reality” was published by Cambridge University Press (2023).

Dr Damjanovic has been a guest lecturer at universities in Australia, Europe (Belgium, Croatia, Italy, Sweden) and Asia (China, Bhutan, Indonesia), she presented her research at conferences in Australia, Europe (Brussels, Luxembourg, Maastricht, Zagreb, Lund, Perugia, Bodo), Asia (Tokyo, Shanghai, Bangkok, Jakarta), Chile (Universidad de Chile) and the US (Yale University), and provided training to government and industry stakeholders in Australia. She has practical expertise in the field of international relations, including as a trade advisor for the Delegation of the European Union to Australia, independent consultant, lawyer and a career diplomat in the Croatian diplomatic service from 2004 to 2013.

Dr Damjanovic holds a PhD from the Australian National University, a Master in Economic Science from the University College Dublin, and an integrated Bachelor and Master degree in Law from the University of Zagreb. She is a qualified Australian lawyer and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law.
